Mexico’s Rafael Villagomez delivered his most successful Formula 2 weekend so far as he secured a career best P2 in the Silverstone Feature Race.
The Van Amersfoort Racing driver also finished third in Saturday’s Sprint Race, as championship leader Nikola Tsolov won both races in a record-breaking weekend.

He told InsideF2 that this was “definitely the best weekend in my F2 career”, highlighting strong pace throughout the weekend.
It’s his third podium result in four races, having kick-started his season last time out in Austria by finishing third in the Sprint Race, his first points of the year.
Villagomez was one of several to utilise the alternative strategy, starting on the hard compound Pirelli tyre, before switching to the soft tyre for the closing laps.
After the race, he revealed to InsideF2 that the strategy was planned out overnight.
“[Yesterday] we saw that yesterday Cian Shields did a strong stint on the softs. So yeah, we planned that. It worked out in the end,” he said.
The 24-year-old said the aim was to score a good points result from eighth on the grid with the hope of building consistency.
“The team did an amazing job with the car and it was flying. So once I was by myself, it was all about doing the job the best I can. And yeah, I mean, a podium, I’ll take it, of course,” he told us.
He said there was a significant amount of tyre management needed in the opening stint, but his pace was strong as he led the majority of the race.
He said the team opted to extend the stint because of his pace, but it meant Tsolov, who’d charged through again from fifth on the grid, was out of reach by the time he had made his mandatory stop.
Villagomez predicted more celebrations for Mexico, when asked about his thoughts ahead of the Mexico-England clash in the World Cup Round of 16 in Mexico City on Sunday night.
“Mexico is going to win, and I say 2-0!” he predicted.
