Alexander Dunne sets the fastest time of the weekend so far with a 1:27.907 for Rodin Motorsport in Free Practice ahead of Round 4 at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola.
Throughout the first part of the session, the fastest times flicked between Prema Racing’s Gabriele Mini and Campos Racing’s Arvid Lindblad. The Italian had set a 1:30.416 before a sub 1:29.000 from Lindblad with a 1:29.031, but Mini had found further pace with a 1:28.526 in the first 20 minutes of the session.
Both Campos Racing drivers, including Josep Maria Marti, showed great late pace towards the last 10 minutes of the sessions with 2nd and 4th place respectively. Ultimately as the track evolved throughout the final 25 minutes, it was Dunne who was able to produce the fastest sub 1:27.000.
Kush Maini showed positive results and separated the Campos Racing teammates in 3rd place with a 1:28.022, with ART Grand Prix’s Victor Martins in 5th and Hitech TGR’s Luke Browning in 6th, who was only 0.554 seconds off the leader.
MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor spent the majority of the start of the session in the pits as the garage made adjustments to the suspension rod and only finished the session in 16th place. The championship leader is hoping to continue a successive streak of points after a 4th place at the Sprint Race and a win at the Feature Race last time out in Jeddah.
Durksen, Fornaroli and Dunne all came off into the gravel at Turn 16 but managed to reenter safely throughout the session. This is a familiar sight in this section of the circuit, where cars are prone to bouncing and something to note throughout the weekend that could cause extra caution amongst drivers.
Additionally, Fornaroli had also struggled further in Turn 10 after taking his Invicta Racing car through the gravel. His best result at this circuit came from racing in the Formula 4 Italian Championship back in 2021 when he finished his home race in 2nd. He only finished this practice session in 15th while his teammate, Roman Stanek finished 9th overall.
Meguetounif, Mini and Crawford completed the top 10 over this session and all eyes now lie ahead to Qualifying that gets underway at 15:55 local time.
