Antonelli on the Feature Race: “I’m quite happy with my performance!”

Formula 2 entertained us all yesterday with a feature race for the ages, allowing many of the rookies in the field to showcase their skills. One of those was Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who’s charge to p10 left him feeling “quite happy with my performance”

Starting P18, Antonelli made a quick start, but an incident at T1 left him having to take avoiding action, leaving him to lose positions in a scenario he described as “quite unlucky”. But not to be deterred, Antonelli set about making progress, and before pitting, Antonelli stated that “we were able to come back to the top 10 and keep a good pace”

But the pace on the harder prime tyres would not be mirrored on the softer option tyres, admitting that he & Prema “struggled more than we expected” after changing on the option tyres. Antonelli used the tyres to his advantage though, holding strong in P10 for his first points finish in Formula 2.

Reflecting, Antonelli said that he’d “need to take a deep look at that”, referring to the differential in pace between tyres, as “compared to Prime, where we were quite competitive, the pace was not equally strong.”

Nonetheless, Antonelli stated that “My first Feature Race was actually good”, and is already excited for this weekend’s race in Jeddah, saying that “It’s going to be a great challenge: and that he thinks “it’s going to be good fun!”

On a closing note, Antonelli wished to “thank everyone on the team for the
great support this weekend!”, a testament to both drivers overcoming uncharacteristically low grid positions thanks to the hard work from Prema.

Formula 2 continues this weekend in Saudi Arabia, a track where Prema have won just under half the races. Antonelli will be keen to add his name to the list of winners, a list which includes two series champions so far.
