Barnard Targets Home Win With Improved AIX Team

AIX Racing’s Taylor Barnard says he’s aiming for a victory at Round 8 of the 2024 FIA Formula 2 season at his home race in Silverstone.

The British driver, who has also competed in Formula E for McLaren this year, spoke exclusively to InsideF2’s Fraser Ford in the paddock and says he’s looking to make amends after missing out on the top step in 2023 when competing in Formula 3.

The 20-year-old collided with current F3 driver Sebastian Montoya, which allowed current MP Motorsport driver Franco Colapinto to grab the win.

“Last year I could have got the win in the Sprint Race, but I messed it up so I’m definitely back to the win on home soil.” the Brit said.

He described the British round as, ‘one of the best Grand Prix of the year’, adding that having it as his home race is, ‘really something special’.

Barnard is one of three British drivers boosted by home support this weekend, alongside ART Grand Prix’s Zak O’Sullivan and PREMA’s Ollie Bearman, who has been confirmed as a Haas F1 Team driver in 2025.

The AIX driver has a victory already this season, winning the Sprint Race in Monaco.

The AIX breakthrough

The team started the year as one of the tail-enders but have made significant progress to now find themselves among the front runners on a regular basis.

Barnard said the team had unlocked speed following the mid-season test in Barcelona in April.

“After the test, the guys did quite a lot of work on aerodynamics and things like that, so I think we’ve made quite a big step on car setup,” Barnard said.

He added: “I think the team have done a really good job working on the car since that test and the races after it have given us some points and results

“[We’ll] definitely be looking for more points and results.”
