Bearman Left Frustrated By Problems and Red Flag

PREMA driver Oliver Bearman was left frustrated by several issues in FIA Formula 2 Qualifying in Australia on Friday.

The 18-year-old, who starred at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix for Ferrari when deputising for Carlos Sainz, could only manage 16th in Melbourne.

His team mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli will start on the front row for Sunday’s Feature Race, with Dennis Hauger of MP Motorsport on pole.

Bearman felt he too could have been towards the front of the grid.

Speaking after the session, the British driver said Qualifying had been difficult.

“I struggled to get a good feeling with the tyre on set one, but I felt we sorted it for set two.”

He was on course to improve with his first run on a new set of Super-Soft Pirelli tyres before a red flag was shown as he exited the final corner, scuppering his chances.

But Bearman’s troubles didn’t stop there.

“Unfortunately, we were quite unlucky with a red flag in the first lap and a technical problem in the second, which meant I could not complete the lap.”

While he didn’t think it would have been a pole position lap, Bearman reckoned he was on for a top three grid spot.

But he’s vowed to bounce back in the Sprint and Feature Races, despite the lowly start position.
