Bortoleto Looking to ‘Move Forward’ After Maini Clash

Bortoleto Looking to ‘Move Forward’ After Maini Clash

Invicta Racing’s Gabriel Bortoleto finished sixth in the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race in Silverstone, putting him fourth in the drivers’ standings after Zane Maloney scored a second podium of the weekend.

Since a strong performance in Austria which saw Bortoleto achieve his first win of the season, the McLaren driver has put himself in the mix of the championship fight.

InsideF2’s Fraser Ford caught up with the Brazilian driver after Sunday’s Feature Race:

“I think it was a solid result. I don’t think it was the best but we still got some points for Race 1 and Race 2. I’m quite happy with what we did.

“We didn’t have mega, mega pace today on options. We had some problems with the brakes. But anyway, we are on it now, quite happy with our prime pace that we showed today, so I’m looking forward to Budapest.”

The Invicta Racing pair fought throughout the majority of Saturday’s Sprint Race and produced a photo finish as the team mates were separated by the smallest of margins across the line.

Bortoleto came out ahead on track but ran wide(and airborne), completing the overtake for third off track, earning him a 5 second time penalty.

Fraser asked him his thoughts about his fight with team mate, Maini:

“I think I’ve already said a lot of things about it and now everything calmed down a little bit. We try to be as respectful as we can to each other. Yesterday was not that situation, I would say.

“It’s a team discussion we are having. We move forward and I hope this type of thing does not happen again because this is just going to be bad for the team’s championship and our own points.

“Sometimes you don’t need to lose time doing that situation. We still finished P4 in the end with the penalty. Good points and I sprayed the champagne so I’m happy.”
