Bortoleto Sights Consistency in Title Fight After Austria Win

Gabriel Bortoleto took his maiden win in FIA Formula 2 in the Feature Race at Spielberg on Sunday after a composed and calculated drive from third on the grid.

The win came after a fourth place finish in the Sprint Race on Saturday, rounding out yet another double points scoring weekend for the Invicta driver. This means he is the only driver, with the exception of championship leader Paul Aron, to score in the previous eight consecutive races.

This mirrors the consistency shown in his title winning FIA Formula 3 campaign in 2023, where he scored points in all, bar three races. The Brazilian driver says he learnt a lot from his experience in Formula 3 last season.

“I think this is an approach I took last year in F3 and it worked very well. Actually, the only times I didn’t score were for technical problems that were out of my control, or the team.

“We were never out of points from qualifying bad, all the races we were able to finish on track, we were in the points.”

Bortoleto is all too aware of the importance of the collation of points across a season in junior categories, and he clearly feels this approach is the correct approach in his rookie season.

“That is the approach I am going to take from now on, and I never changed it actually. So, that is a good thing, I think.”

Victory in the Feature Race moves the Brazilian into the top three of the championship, just 30 points behind championship leader Aron. He will be hoping to continue his points scoring form as we move into the second half of the season.
