Ralph Boschung left his weekend in Emilia Romagna after taking a third career podium place – his first of 2022 – after a P3 finish in the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race on Sunday.
Boschung was extremely satisfied with the silverware and how he achieved it as he reflected on his performance during the race:
“I got a great start in the Feature Race to move up to second and then it was all about controlling my pace throughout the Safety Car periods and making sure to look after the tyres.”
As he looked back on the weekend overall, Boschung mentioned he mostly enjoyed the strong performance he and the team delivered.
“It was great to have a strong weekend here at Imola, and I’m delighted to be back on the podium.”
Boschung managed to deliver during Free Practice and Qualifying on Friday despite the difficult circumstances. That performance saw the Campos driver take a good qualifying slot to give him a top ten position to start the racing on Saturday and Sunday.
“I started well, going fastest in Free Practice despite the conditions and the delays, and I was happy to take fourth in qualifying.”
Not everything went as planned, though. Despite his promising qualifying performance, Boschung struggled with a retirement in the Sprint Race.
“I lined up in seventh for the semi reverse-grid Sprint Race, but unfortunately we were forced to retire with a fuel pump issue.”
Nevertheless, Boschung is optimistic and hopeful as he looks forward to the upcoming Formula 2 weekend in Barcelona, wishing for similar results as the season continues.
“I’m delighted to take third place and my first podium this season, and now we’ll focus on continuing our strong form and aim for more results like this in Barcelona.”
The next round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship will take place in Barcelona on the 23rd and 24th of May, where Boschung will look for more points and trophies.
