Boschung Reflects on “Great” Return to Racing in Spa

Boschung claims bronze in SPA-Francorchamps after long absence due to injury

Ralph Boschung proved he could still challenge for wins, as he claimed the fastest times in Friday’s Free Practice, took 10th place in Friday’s Qualifying round, and eventually scored a podium on Saturday’s Sprint Race after starting from pole position.

It has been a great comeback weekend for the Swiss driver after being diagnosed with facet syndrome. Despite making his return on a challenging wet Spa-Francorchamps track, Boschung did not hold back.

While still fighting with neck pain due to his injury, he was able to fight for a spot on the podium in Saturday’s Sprint Race – his first race back in F2.

Reflecting on the weekend, Boschung explained: “We started strongly on Friday by going fastest in Free Practice despite the tricky conditions, and I was happy to claim 10th and the Sprint Race pole in qualifying.

“Sunday was also a tough day, we had the pace for points, but we got caught by the drivers on the alternate strategy.”

The weekend didn’t go Boschung’s way entirely. Yet, he remained focused after finishing in 14th position in the weekend’s final race: “The focus now is returning to full health as soon as possible and I hope to be racing again next weekend.”

The Campos driver will need to see if his return to the track has impacted his recovery before he decides to race next week at Zandvoort, but he reflected positively on his first race since Baku: “Overall, it was great to get back on track, and it’s an amazing feeling to stand on the podium at Spa.”

The F2 grid will take on the Dutch circuit of Zandvoort between September 2nd-4th, which makes a first appearance in the FIA Formula 2 Championship calendar this year.

We hope to see Ralph Boschung compete and wish him all the best in his journey to full health recovery.
