Alex Dunne dominated at Thruxton taking two victories to extend his British F4 championship lead for Hitech Grand Prix.

The Irishman finished fifth at the Hampshire circuit in the reverse grid race as Aiden Neate stormed to his first victory in the F4 British championship.

Carlin continue to lead the Teams Cup with 226 points ahead of Hitech in the highly competitive series.

Dunne was delighted after Qualifying and gave a great insight into how to deliver a great lap at Thruxton: “I think it’s kind of a combination of seeing if you can get a slipstream, you have to be very precise because the track is extremely abrasive here.

“So it’s quite bumpy so you have to be very precise but it’s a really enjoyable track.”

JHR Developments driver Joseph Loake secured an admirable P4 in Race 1 of the weekend despite not feeling his best and discussed the relative difficulty of managing the Pirelli rubber at the high speed Thruxton. 

The Briton said: It’s tricky because the surface is so different to every other track really. We were expecting the tyres to be awful round here really and to be honest, we’ve been quite surprised they’ve been quite good. 

“I didn’t have any graining I don’t think in that race which did come as quite a big shock but it was a nice surprise so the tyres have been alright this weekend.”

Carlin driver and Williams junior Ollie Gray has shown fantastic consistency in his second British F4 season finishing in the top four in every race he’s completed.

Gray spoke of the main overtaking places at Thruxton which is the fastest circuit in Britain post Qualifying: “I think into the first complex is a good overtaking place around the outside and also into the chicane obviously after the long straight.”
