After reaching the end of the 2021 FIA Formula 2 season, the championship’s final weekend ended up being one to remember for Campos Racing.
The Spanish outfit finished a respectable P7 in the teams’ championship, just half a point ahead of DAMS. The cherry on top for the final round was another third-place finish for Ralph Boschung in Sprint Race 2; the second podium of his career.
The Swiss driver then scored more points in the Feature Race on Sunday, where he was the ninth driver to cross the line after the chequered flag.
Olli Caldwell, the rookie who filled in for Campos to replace David Beckmann for the last two rounds, also made personal progress.
He seems to have taken a step in the right direction as he significantly gained speed after his debut in Jeddah. His comfort with the F2 car ultimately showed as he got his hands on the fastest lap in Sprint Race 1.
The last Feature Race of the season was undoubtedly eventful, filled with different strategies and race experiences for both Campos drivers.
Both Boschung and Caldwell will leave Abu Dhabi with their heads held high after a decent performance this last race weekend.
After this eight-round season, Ralph Boschung ended the 2021 season 10th in the drivers’ standings, his best finish to date. The Swiss driver scored 59.5 of Campos’ 66.5 points for the teams’ championship.
Both parties will be hoping that these positive steps will work as they start the preparations for the upcoming 2022 season with Boschung already signed for next year.
Although the season is now over, the schedule continues to be a busy one for Campos. The team takes part in Formula 2’s official post-season test, which will also be held at the Yas Marina Circuit over December 16-18th.
