Campos “We expect to be back up the front”
The FIA Formula 2 Campos team have been flat out over the last couple of weeks following the flag at the last race in Hungary. This development and focus has been laser focused on ensuring the team turn around a slower start to the season than they would have liked.
Both Aitken and Samaia are said to be motivated and hopeful they can improve on the first phase of the season this weekend at Silverstone.
This weekends British Grand Prix at Silverstone will be the first of a double weekender at the iconic circuit. The second race will celebrate the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix for Formula 1.
Aitken will be hoping he can replicate last year’s drive at his home race and get on the top step in either or both races this weekend. If he is hoping to get in the mix for the Championship he will need to secure a solid haul of points over the next two Silverstone race weekends.
Samaia spoke after round 3 that he was still learning the ropes in the new car and that he would like to see the next phase of three races as a place he can make some improvement as he continues find his feet in the championship and team.
The weekend looks to be an un-usually hot weekend following what was changeable and un-predictable weather in Austria and Hungary. Therefore the focus will be on outright pace and overtaking skill on one of the fastest circuits in the world.
Team principle Adrián Campos reflected on the season thus far;
“As expected, the events and races run in atypical conditions due to COVID-19 pandemic. The restrictions to arrest the further spread of the pandemic obviously affect working conditions, which are not ideal particularly in motorsport in which every small details is of utmost importance for the functioning of the whole. This said, we expect to be back up the front and achieve the top results in which we set our sight on at the beginning of the season.”
