Campos Racing are confident of finally capitalising on the potential shown at the previous round at Monza.
The team go into the Sochi weekend with the same driver they used at the Monza meeting with regular driver Ralph Boschung paired up with former Charouz driver David Beckmann who gets another chance at the Spanish team.
Campos’s sporting director Adrián Campos-Suñer Torres expressed his pleasure in retaining Beckmann’s services.
“We are extremely happy to repeat our driver line-up consisting of Ralph and David. We are looking forward to translating into results the potential shown at Monza. We have worked restlessly during these last weeks to properly prepare this Sochi round.”
Last year’s weekend was a mixed one for Campos, as Jack Aitken scored two top-six finishes for the Spanish team, but Aitken’s Sprint race ended early after a massive shunt with Hitech’s Luca Ghiotto, causing the race to be halted after five laps.
Monza was a weekend of two halves for Campos, with late arrival Beckmann finishing fifth in the second Sprint race after running in second for 19 laps before outbreaking himself into the Lesmo costing the German a podium.
Boschung, on the other hand, was caught out by contact in the first Sprint race and the Feature race, costing Campos valuable points.
The Swiss veteran, who turned 24 before the Sochi weekend, is hoping for a good result at Sochi in what will be his first visit to the circuit for over two years.
“Sochi is quite a special track and a special place. It’s been 2 years since I’ve last raced there’s so I’m looking forward to go back to the Russian Grand Prix. It will be a very important weekend for various reasons and hopefully, we will finally be able to get the result we deserve.”
Beckmann’s second outing for Campos will also be his first chance to race at the Sochi circuit after withdrawing from the 2019 Formula 3 round at the circuit due to a family emergency.
The German comes into Sochi with a five-place grid penalty for his part in the accident that took out Bent Viscaal in the Feature race.
“I am extremely thankful that I have another opportunity to drive for Campos Racing in Sochi. Monza was a good weekend but we had a lot more potential available so now we have another race to deliver.”
