Charouz Racing System have signed the highly regarded eSports racer, Cem Bölükbasi for the 2022 FIA Formula 2 season.
Tipped to be quite the sensation, the young Turkish driver is making a permanent move into the feeder series on his #RoadToF1, joining the Czech based team after testing the Dallara GP2/11 at Brno, in October last year.
Bölükbasi has already shown promise in the 2021 Euroformula Open Championship, by finishing the 2021 season in fifth place, with 217 points. He secured a pole position, eight podiums, and two race wins in the Dallara F320.
Winning the 2020 Formula Renault Esport Championship, Bölükbasi made the transition into a Formula 2 car, during last season’s post-season testing at the Yas Marina Circuit.
The 23 year old will make hisCharouz debut in the pre-season test at the Sakhir circuit (2-4 March), beginning his Formula 2 journey in Bahrain on March 18-20 during the first round of the scheduled 14.
Finishing their 2021 campaign in 10th place with 28 points, Charouz will be aiming for the top five this coming season with the hotly tipped Bölükbasi in the driving seat.
Team Owner, Antonín Charouz stated:
“We’re more than delighted to welcome a brilliant driver like Cem in our Formula 2 team. It will be a challenging and exciting new experience for him, but he has already shown that he has the numbers to learn quickly and get some good results in some of the most competitive and difficult Formula-feeder categories. It’s going to be a long and tough season with 14 rounds, and that could be something he can take advantage of. On our side, we’ll obviously do everything we can to provide him with the best car and guide him in his learning path.”
