Amaury Cordeel revealed to InsideF2 that he will be racing in Formula 2 next season.
The Belgian driver has raced for Van Amersfoort this season and achieved a best result of fifth place in Abu Dhabi’s Sprint Race.
Cordeel remained coy when asked by InsideF2 about which team he’ll drive for next year but said he will return to F2 in 2023.
“I can’t say yet but I will be in F2 next year.”
The 20-year-old was pleased with his efforts in the Feature Race as he drove to a well-earned sixth place for the Dutch team.
Cordeel said he improved on his tyre management compared to the Sprint Race and he is happy the team surpassed Campos in the Teams’ championship.
“I think today was good, we did a better tyre saving than yesterday and we made a step in the right direction with the car and I think that’s great.
“But now I managed it a bit too much because at the end I had too much tyre life at the end so I could’ve pushed earlier to pass Logan or even (Dennis) Hauger but it’s a great result for the team now we are up in the standings compared to Campos, so that’s good.
The Belgian driver said the points are a good reward for the teams hard work: “I think it’s good for the team because they were working all year.
“So that’s a good one and I’m glad for the team and for me it’s good to have points.”
Juan Manuel Correa made a superb return to Formula 2 for Van Amersfoort in Abu Dhabi. The American finished both races in P17 and P18 on his comeback to F2.
Cordeel was impressed with his team mates performance particularly over one lap in qualifying.
“I think quite good, I didn’t see how his race went because we haven’t debriefed yet but I think qualifying was quite good he was seven tenths off pole for the first time back in the car it’s good.”
