American driver Jak Crawford was present at the YAS Marina Circuit this week, testing in the Formula 2 car with Hitech Grad Prix.
The Red Bull Junior, who raced for Prema in the F3 Championship last year, was given a chance to join the F2 grid at the end of the season testing session in Abu Dhabi.
“Results were not that great, but we’re not focusing on performance. It’s all about learning and getting used to the car”, admits Jak.
When asked an opinion about the experience, Crawford was not shy of showing enthusiasm. “It feels good. Obviously being closer to F1 is always cool. You’re getting in a faster car with more speed, more downforce, so it’s nice to be in the car.”
While Victor Martins was crowned FIA Formula 3 2022 Champion, Crawford finished in 7th position in the driver’s championship standings. “The season didn’t go how I wanted, of course, the result was still decent. It was really close in the end”, commented the 17-year-old.
Jak praised fellow American driver, Logan Sargeant who was recently promoted to official Williams F1 driver for the 2023 season, following a solid final round to earn his Super Licence. “Fair play to him, he did a good job.”
We will be looking our for Jak’s plans for next season and hope to see him again in the F2 paddock.
