DAMS finished the 2020 Formula 2 season off with a podium.
Dan Ticktum claimed DAMS’ fifth podium finish of the season in the Sprint Race to finish the season off on a high.
The Feature Race saw the Brit starting eighth, which is exactly where he finished, giving him reverse grid pole for the Sprint Race. He would have had his eyes set on victory, but it was just out of reach, and he ended up dropping to third.
Ticktum said: “I did my best to defend the lead in the Sprint Race, but we couldn’t hang on to it and came home third. I would like to thank DAMS for giving me the opportunity of a top drive in F2. A year ago, I was starting at the possibility of my career coming to an end, but DAMS believed in me and gave me a shot, so for that, I am very grateful.”
Sean Gelael didn’t have as good a weekend as his teammate. He started the Feature Race from the back of the grid and only made it up to 19th. The Sprint Race only saw him climb two places to 17th.
Gelael said: “I’d like to thank the whole DAMS team for their efforts this year and for sticking with me during my recovery time after I was injured. I struggled with getting the tyres up to temperature in qualifying because the track is unusually short, but I was able to make progress in both races. It was tough on tyre management, but we pulled through.”
Next up for DAMS is the post-season test in Bahrain between the 8th and 10th of December, where they will field Ferrari Driver Academy’s Marcus Armstrong and Williams Driver Academy’s Roy Nissany.
