Both DAMS Lucas Oil cars managed to finish in the top 10 of the Imola Feature Race after a difficult weekend.
During Qualifying mechanical issues struck Jak Crawford, and his team mate Juan Manuel Correa only finished a place in front at 20th. Both drivers managed to improve on their positions in the Sprint Race where they finished 14th and 15th. DAMS’ weekend was recovered in the Feature Race.
Opting for split strategies, Aston Martin junior Crawford pitted on Lap 8 and managed to make some impressive overtakes, notably on championship leader Maloney to finish in seventh position.
Talking about the Feature Race Crawford said, “Today we had a strong car and strategy, I was able to make a couple of great overtakes and work my way up to P7, which I think is a positive finish.”
Correa who opted for the alternate strategy and finished P8 said about his race today, “We knew we would be quick in clean air, so we opted for the alternative strategy on my side. It worked well and the team did a great job during the stop.”
On the choices for the Feature Race, team owner Charles Pic stated, “We decided to split strategies to give us the best chance of points. The race pace was positive.
The crew did a great job in the pit stops, so we can be happy with P7 and P8 considering where we started.”
The Imola weekend finishes with Crawford making it into the top 10 of the drivers championship. We will see if he can stay there when F2 visits Monaco next weekend.
