DAMS was able to score double points in the Round 8 Feature Race at the Red Bull Ring this weekend. This happened on the back of Ayumu Iwasa getting six points, and Roy Nissany getting two, a 7th and 9th place finish respectively.
After not getting a double points finish since the Round 2 Feature Race at Jeddah, this was a good return to doing so for the DAMS team after neither driver scored in the Sprint Race this weekend.
Early in the Feature Race, the team split strategies for their two drivers, putting Iwasa on a set of wet track tires, and Nissany on a slick set. This would work well for Nissany, as the track was relatively dry after the first five to ten laps.
Iwasa would end up having to pit for slick tires along with most of the leading cars after an early safety car allowed the track to dry even further.
He would speak about this decision after the race, saying: “In the Feature Race we got a bit unlucky with the strategy, looking back we picked the wrong option.”
Iwasa would also mention that the car setup was not optimal for slick tires, hence why he was not able to get even further into the points, stating: ” I didn’t quite have the right car balance on the slick tyres, so we weren’t able to recover as far as we would’ve liked.”
Teammate Roy Nissany was happy with his recovery drive after a disappointing 17th place qualifying position.
He would go on to say: “We put in two good races, recovering plenty of positions and picking up points in the Feature Race. I’m satisfied with the performance after a tough weekend for me at Silverstone. Let’s continue the hard work at Paul Ricard.”
A good scoring Feature Race for DAMS puts them 8th in the Team Standings, three points clear of Campos Racing and nine points behind Virtuosi Racing.
