Virtuosi’s Jack Doohan says he is heading to Round 11 of the 2022 FIA Formula 2 season in Belgium aiming for two finishes in the top five.
“I would like to get a win in Spa for sure, especially as it’s getting to that point in the season, and a solid points haul from two races inside the top five ideally,” Australian Doohan said, adding: “If we could get a podium and a win, or a win and a top-five finish I would be more than happy!”
Doohan has displayed flashes of pace in his rookie F2 season, taking pole position on two occasions, as well as two masterful Sprint Race victories.
However, misfortune has also played it’s part, leaving the Alpine Academy Driver ninth in the Drivers’ Standings.
This weekend’s trip to Spa-Francorchamps marks the start of a triple header, which could make or break each drivers’ season, and Doohan is “very excited” to go to the classic Spa circuit.
“I’m very excited to be racing at Spa-Francorchamps this year, it’s one of my favourite circuits, especially on this year’s calendar,” the 19-year-old said.
Doohan has every reason to be confident, after scoring two victories in Formula 3 in 2021 for Trident, where he also started the Feature Race from pole position.
With just 12-points separating Doohan in ninth to Enzo Fittipaldi who is fourth in the Drivers’ Standings, a strong weekend in Spa could set the Australian on course for a top five finish in the championship.
