Virtuosi Racing’s Jack Doohan leads the session opener in Budapest with only 0.001s away from his fellow rookie Ayumu Iwasa in second as the Australian driver faced an issue in the final minutes of Free Practice.

Doohan took over the top of the leaderboard with just 20 minutes left on the clock after a handful of drivers took turns of the lead, and Iwasa could only get so close to beating his lap time.

Van Amersfoort Racing’s David Beckmann completed the session in third, showing his best result of the season ahead of ART’s Frederik Vesti in fourth, as the birthday boy Marcus Armstrong rounded out the top five for Hitech.

Further down, Théo Pourchaire made sure that both ART cars entered the top ten in sixth ahead of PREMA Racing’s Dennis Hauger, who had to settle in seventh after spinning off at Turn 11 at the end of the session.

His fellow Red Bull Juniors Liam Lawson dropped to eighth after making some improvements to match Doohan’s time as Charouz Racing’s Enzo Fittipaldi ended the ninth session with Juri Vips rounding out the top 10 in the second Hitech car.

Moreover, The FIA Formula 2 will be back in action for the first-ever Qualifying session in Hungaroring at 18.30 local times.
