After the Barcelona Sprint Race concluded, penalties were imposed on Juan Manuel Correa, Roy Nissany, and Amaury Cordeel.
Firstly, Cordeel received an additional 10-second time penalty at the end of the Sprint Race. This was in addition to the five-second time penalty he had already received during the race for exceeding track limits. The team failed to implement the penalty during Cordeel’s pitstop, resulting in an extra 10 seconds being added to his race time.
Consequently, the penalty caused Cordeel to drop from 14th to 17th place in the classification. Zane Maloney, Brad Benavides, and Ralph Boschung each moved up one place in the standings.
Furthermore, Juan Manuel Correa received a three-place grid penalty. During the Sprint Race, Correa, driving for Van Amersfoort Racing, made contact with Roman Stanek from Trident, causing the Czech driver to spin. After investigating the incident, the Stewards determined that Correa was primarily responsible for the collision.
As a result of the penalty, Correa will start the Barcelona Feature Race from 14th position, even though he qualified in 11th place. This advancement promotes Richard Verschoor, Arthur Leclerc, and Kush Maini by one position on the starting grid.
Lastly, Roy Nissany was given a five-place grid penalty for causing a collision. While racing, the PHM Racing by Charouz driver collided with Jehan Daruvala from MP Motorsport, and Nissany was found to be entirely responsible for the incident.
Consequently, Nissany is set to start the Barcelona Feature Race from 21st place on the grid. This advancement promotes Ralph Boschung, Roman Stanek, Clément Novalak, Isack Hadjar, and Zane Maloney by one position each on the grid for Sunday’s race.
