Drugovich moves to UNI-Virtuosi for 2021
Felipe Drugovich has announced he will be moving to UNI-Virtuosi for the 2021 Formula 2 season.
The Brazilian driver contested this season with MP Motorsport and had a stellar rookie season. He achieved three races wins in Austria, Spain and Bahrain on his way to ninth in the drivers’ standings.
On the move, he said: “I think if you take a big picture of the championship, I think UNI-Virtuosi has been the team that has had the best pace.
“Through the season they had really good qualifying pace, and they’re really fast at every track.”
Prior to joining F2, Drugovich won the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 title in 2017-18 before taking the Euroformula Open and Spanish Formula 3 titles that same year.
He then endured a difficult rookie campaign in Formula 3 with Carlin Buzz Racing, where he finished in 16th place.
This will be his second season in Formula 2 and he will be joining UNI-Virtuosi, who finished second in both the teams’ and drivers’ championships with Callum Ilott and Guanyu Zhou. Ilott has already announced he will not be returning to the series next year after missing out on a F1 seat.
The team also claimed half of the pole positions available this year, with Drugovich achieving his first pole position at the first weekend at Silverstone.
Andy Roche, Team Principal at UNI-Virtuosi said: “Felipe had a fantastic maiden season in Formula 2 this year with three victories, despite the uncertainty 2020 has produced. He has shown amazing pace and ability in only his first year in the championship.
“UNI-Virtuosi Racing has a long history of working with young drivers to help them succeed in a competitive championship quickly, and that’s exactly what we’re targeting with Felipe.”
Drugovich will get to test out his new car at the post-season test in Bahrain on December 8-10. UNI-Virtuosi have yet to announce who will be partnering him next year.
