Monza’s historic Autodromo Nazionale, one of motorsport’s most storied cathedrals, had a single protagonist this Sunday: Joshua Dürksen.
The Paraguayan driver from Invicta Racing claimed victory in the Feature Race, capping off a perfect weekend after also winning Saturday’s Sprint.
It was Dürksen’s eighth career win in Formula 2 — his fourth of the 2026 season — a tally that equals the championship’s all-time record and underscores the driver’s outstanding current form.
The race got off to an electric start. Dürksen out-launched his Invicta team mate, Brazilian Rafael Câmara, and grabbed the lead at the very first corner after Câmara slightly missed his braking point and cut across the chicane.
From there, the two Invicta cars staged a private battle within the race itself, trading the lead multiple times through bold overtakes — nearly always at Turn 1 — providing a spectacle of its own inside the main event.
The rhythm was broken by a Safety Car period, triggered when American driver Colton Herta spun into the gravel at the daunting Parabolica corner, effectively ending his race. With the field bunched back up, the second half of the race promised even more drama.
On the restart, Dürksen showed composure and managed his advantage well, while Câmara refused to back down, closing the gap to mere tenths of a second in the closing laps.
On the penultimate lap, the Brazilian even probed for an opening into the Parabolica, but couldn’t find a way past his team mate, who crossed the finish line to take the win.
Rounding out the podium was Mexican driver Noel León of Campos Racing, who delivered a solid drive and a consistent recovery throughout the race to finish third. John Bennett and Ritomo Miyata completed the top five.
Speaking after the win, an emotional Dürksen summed up the feeling of the weekend:
“I think it’s an unreal feeling. I still can’t believe I’ve won both races this weekend in Monza, so a 100% win ratio. Just unbelievable really. It’s such a special place Monza. So historic, I love this place, love the area around Monza, love Italy, it’s been incredible. This is a dream come true.”
In the championship standings, Bulgarian driver Nikola Tsolov remains the points leader heading into the next round in Madrid, with 177 points.
Rafael Câmara, buoyed by Sunday’s result, moves up to second place, now just 11 points behind the leader. In the Teams’ Championship, Campos Racing holds the top spot, closely followed by Invicta Racing, who picked up crucial points with their Monza one-two.
The 2026 Formula 2 season now heads to Spain, where the series will make its debut at the brand-new Madring circuit for round 10 of the campaign, set to take place from September 11-13.
