Brazilian driver Enzo Fittipaldi completed the opening round of the F2 championship by scoring points this Sunday with a ninth placed finish.
“So the first race weekend of the year is over and we had a double points finish here in Bahrain,” stated the 21-year old Brazilian. “P8 in the Sprint Race and P9 in the Feature Race.”
The Carlin driver was in the top 10 in the first of 32 laps around the Bahrain International Circuit, and stayed in this group until the end of the race.
The Red Bull junior driver escaped an accident that took four competitors out of contention in the initial lap, and advanced to sixth, after starting from 13th place.
After the restart, it didn’t take long for Fittipaldi to make the mandatory pit stop to fit soft tyres.
Without presenting the best of rhythms with the red striped compounds, Fittipaldi was placed in a group that exchanged intense overtaking in the final laps.
“It was a frustrating result for us, in the Feature Race because we had a lot of pace at the beginning of the race, we went from 13th to 6th, fighting for a top 6th finish. And we just had no tyres left in the last 5 laps. And we ended up finishing P9.”
“We’ll analyse the data, learn from this and be back much stronger for Jeddah in two weeks time.” said Fittipaldi.
The Formula 2 season will continue from the 16th to the 18th of March in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah circuit.
