Max Esterson will replace Hunter Yeany at Rodin Carlin in FIA F3 for the Silverstone and Budapest rounds of the championship.
The American driver steps up to FIA F3 from GB3, where he is enduring a mediocre season, sitting 14th in the championship without a podium finish.
Esterson began competing in the virtual world on iRacing, setting some highly competitive lap times.
The Rodin Carlin driver is delighted to be racing at Silverstone, a track he’s raced on multiple times and scored top five finishes in GB3.
“Racing at the British Grand Prix this weekend in my FIA F3 debut will be quite surreal.
“I know jumping into a championship like this with such little experience will be difficult but at least I know Silverstone well and the team proved to be really strong there last year.
“A big thanks to Rodin Carlin for having me and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve.”
Esterson has already sampled the FIA F3 car, which has much more power and downforce than the GB3 machine, at the post-season test at Jerez last year.
The Team Principal Trevor Carlin is happy to welcome the American to the team, but warned he will have a lot to learn in a short space of time.
Carlin added: “We’re pleased to welcome Max to the team this weekend.
“He will have a lot to learn very quickly, but he has a great team around him and will make his F3 debut on track his familiar with.
“Making progress with every session will be the aim and I look forward to seeing what he can achieve.”
Round 7 gets underway at Silverstone on the 7-9 July.
