Formula 2 Championship leader Richard Verschoor says he’s looking forward to taking on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit at the ninth round of the 2025 season.
The Dutchman leads the standings by six points ahead of DAMS Lucas Oil driver, Jak Crawford, who won the Feature Race at Silverstone.
Verschoor, who won the previous Feature Race in Austria, endured a difficult weekend in Britain, scoring just eight points, as his rivals closed in.
But, the MP Motorsport driver is aiming to inject new momentum into his title push in Belgium this weekend.
“I think Spa is one of the best circuits,” the 24-year-old said. “All the drivers, they love Spa.
“It’s always very nice to drive, it’s got a very nice flow, with some high-speed corners, which is very enjoyable to drive in the Formula 2 car.”
The circuit features two DRS (Drag Reduction System) zones, with a short one on the pit straight before La Source (Turn 1), before the main overtaking spot, with DRS on the Kemmel Straight before the Les Combes chicane.
“That’s where most moves are done, but since we have Eau Rouge before, it can be quite tricky to keep the car close, so tactic-wise it can be quite interesting,” the championship leader explained.
The Dutchman said Qualifying can see small gaps between drivers, making it crucial to nail every lap on Friday afternoon.
He’s confident of a strong result.
“I have always been strong in the races there, so even if qualifying does not go your way, I will still have a lot of opportunities in the race.”
