Tsolov is the master on Sunday
The Bulgarian star delivered another exemplary performance on Sunday in Spielberg, crafting his race expertly to deliver the victory.
He didn’t have it all his own way but he appeared in control, despite losing the lead and a slow pit stop.
The Bulgarian Lion pounced on his opportunity when race leader Dunne began to struggle and grabbed it with both hands to close the championship lead to two points. It’s his third Feature Race victory so far, and the signs suggest it probably isn’t his last in 2026.

Bennett belongs at F2 level
Trident’s Bennett admitted after his stunning last-lap victory in the Sprint Race that he’s been playing catch-up on experience, having skipped Formula 3. But the Red Bull Ring appears to suit his strengths and he was able to deliver an impressive maiden podium, and victory.
It shows that he can deliver at this level and confirms that Trident are on the way up still, as they returned to the top step for the first time since 2024.
The win is well-timed too, as Bennett’s next race is at home in Britain.

Mini still making the most of MP package
Consistency is paying off for the Italian as he retains a slender championship advantage over Tsolov. The Alpine Academy driver has said repeatedly it is all about making the most of each day in the car and bringing home the best possible result.
By and large he has done that, the one exception being the Monaco Feature Race. But he and MP have bounced back from that Monte Carlo Sunday to score three podiums in four races.

Goethe finally gets his big result
It’s been a rotten run in recent weeks for the German driver, but at last it all came together for Oliver in Austria.
Had Tsolov and Mini not escaped from being stuck behind Dunne when they did, there is a chance that Goethe may well have won the Feature Race, such was his speed on the super-soft tyre late on. But he’s pleased with the third place, and it’s deserved because he’s suffered a significant amount of bad luck at times during his F2 stint.

F2 is becoming more and more competitive
F2 is always competitive at the front, but those lower down the order are making a fist of things when they have the opportunity – and Austria showcased that perfectly.
On Saturday, we saw VAR, PREMA and a resurgent Trident on the podium, while the Feature Race saw four different teams in contention for the race win for the majority of it.
It suggests that F2 is in good health, with teams required to be on top of their game to deliver the best results possible, while drivers are being challenged by deeper and deeper competition.
