Team bosses from the FIA Formula 2 paddock are sharing their excitement ahead of the series’ first weekend in Canada.
F2 visits the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal for the third round of the 2026 season, with the weekend replacing the cancelled trip to Saudi Arabia, which was called off due to the conflict in the Middle East.
Adrián Campos, Team Principal of championship leaders Campos Racing, says his team has clear ambitions in Canada.
“We’re approaching this new FIA Formula 2 race with great enthusiasm, eager to build on the excellent results we achieved in the previous two rounds,” he said, adding that the team has been putting in serious simulator work, aiming to extract the most from the single free practice session before qualifying.
The Campos team go into the third round of the season six points ahead of defending Teams’ champions, Invicta Racing, having won the Australia Feature Race and Miami Sprint Race with Bulgaria’s Nikola Tsolov, who leads the Drivers’ Championship by a single point.
Champions aim to reclaim top spot
The Spanish team will be hoping to extend their lead over Invicta, with their Team Principal, James Robinson, confident his team can snatch top spot from their rivals.
He said that visiting two brand-new circuits in consecutive rounds is a rare scenario, but he’s choosing to see it as an opportunity rather than an obstacle.
Robinson said: “We came away from Miami with a solid set of results, so there’s no reason why we can’t do the same in Montréal,” he said.
The Norfolk-based team will be aiming to add to their Sprint Race win with Joshua Dürksen in Australia, as well as the two Feature Race podiums that Rafa Câmara has scored so far.
F2 giants hopeful of moving forward again
Meanwhile, new PREMA Racing Team Prinicipal and CEO, Stephen Mitas, is arriving in Canada focussed on recovery and growth.
The Italian team scored eight points in Miami, with Spaniard Mari Boya finishing seventh in the Feature Race, and Colombia’s Sebastian Montoya in ninth, but the team is aiming for more, with the team boss describing it as a “challenging” weekend.
Mitas says the way his team responded to difficulties is an encouraging sign. “There will naturally be variables and unknowns to manage throughout the event, but we have full confidence in our drivers and in what this group is capable of delivering.”
The two-time F2 Teams Champions are currently ninth in the standings with 10 points.
