F2 Testing – DAY 2 PM REPORT

The second part of our day 2 post-season testing began at Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi at 14:00 Local Time on 30th November.

We kicked off the PM session with a VIP start as FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem hosted Paraguayan President Santiago Peña, stopping by to show his support for his countryman Joshua Duerksen.

Zak O’Sullivan was first out, followed by Aron, Cordeel, and Goethe, prior to several drivers joining a few minutes later.

The top time after 10 minutes was Dennis Hauger with a 1:40.855 after 5 laps, followed by teammate Colapinto, 0.414 behind, as the drivers worked on more long runs, all in the 1:40s at this stage.

As the drivers all circulated a dozen times, it was Maloney who first broke the 1:40s with a 1:39.653.

Nearly an hour in, Hauger and Colapinto exchanged fastest laps, with the Argentinian clocking a 1:38.558 after both drivers had completed 23 laps.  The Norwegian, however, pipped his rookie teammate with a 1:38.280 a couple of laps later.

The session was halted when red flags were waved soon after. Duerksen in his PHM had stopped at Turn 2 with a technical issue.

As the session resumed, the status quo was broken by Invicta Virtuosi’s Kush Maini with a 1:38.425, slotting in between Hauger and Colapinto, respectively, as the two MP Motorsport drivers cooled down in the garage.

30 plus laps into both drivers’ sessions, the last two F3 champions had some fun over a couple of laps. Both Bortoleto and Martins exchanged places in the 1:40s.

Halfway through, the session was halted following an incident with Zak O’Sullivan 46 laps into his session at Turn 7. With no damage, he was towed back to the pits and the session resumed with 1 hour 20 minutes left.

As we resumed, and shortly afterward with now an hour remaining, Enzo Fittipaldi, racing with VAR for 2024, dropped in a 1:38.397, just 0.117 behind Hauger’s top time and 0.145 ahead of Maini, now in third.

By now, most of the drivers had completed between 30-40 laps, with Hauger on 47 so far.

Maini then posted a 1:37.983 to nudge Hauger down the order. Only a few minutes later, Ollie Bearman posted a 1:37.600, only to have it then deleted.

The top three with 40 minutes remaining were Maini, Hauger, and Fittipaldi.

With 20 minutes remaining, reigning F3 champion Gabriel Bortoleto went even faster with a 1:36.924 for Invicta Virtuosi.

Having had two fastest laps deleted over the last 30 minutes, Bearman went back out and put together a clean lap, and with a 1:36.891 put himself top at last.

However, Bortoleto wasn’t done as he continued to beat his own times, the McLaren Junior took the top spot right back with a 1:36.381 to conclude the afternoon session at Yas Marina.

All of the drivers clocked up significant mileage both this morning and afternoon, taking the average rotation count up to 100+. The PM session saw Aron rack up 72 laps overall, bringing his total for the day to 114. Victor Martins completed the most laps today, with 125 through both sessions.
