Enzo Fittipaldi finished P4 in one of the ‘fastest cars’ in the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race in Monza, only to be promoted to third, after the post-race disqualification of Ayumu Iwasa.
Talking exclusively to insideF2, the Charouz driver described his Qualifying session and Feature Race:
“We had a difficult Qualifying; As Iwasa crashed I was on a good lap and the flag came out, so we qualified 16th which was unfortunate. But we were able to have a really good pace in the races, and a big gain.
“I’m very happy, we had a good race today. We had really good points and a fight with Iwasa for the podium, today we were flying out there. It was on rails. We were really fast – one of the fastest cars out there today!”
After finishing the Sprint Race out of the points in 12th place, and starting 16th on the grid for the Feature, it looked as though Fittipaldi’s fortunes wouldn’t be in his favour this weekend:
“A great recovery and just really happy with it – the most important is that we scored good points after a difficult Quali and we were in the mix for the top three.”
With his eyes on the highest finishing place he can reach, the Brazilian looked ahead to the final race weekend of the season in November, “I’m only 12 points behind [Logan] Sargeant, so it’ll be a nice finale in Abu Dhabi.”
Fittipaldi has almost single-handedly earned all the points for the Charouz team this season – 126/130. A feat he should be proud of wherever his motor racing career takes him. He undoubtedly deserves to take credit and enjoy the moment. Fittipaldi concluded:
“I’m very happy with the result.”
