Enzo Fittipaldi is optimistic ahead of Sunday’s Feature Race in Hungary after qualifying in second place.
The Brazilian wrestled his Van Amersfoort to the front row just 0.069s behind championship leader Paul Aron.
He said in the post-qualifying press conference: “I’m quite confident going into the feature race. Honestly, the race pace here, I’ve always been very good.
“So I remember in ’22, I started ninth and finished second in the Feature Race. And last year as well, I started, twelfth and finished seventh.
“So I know I have good pace here in the race. So I’m looking forward to it. We showed a very good pace in the last two rounds in the races.”
Fittipaldi has put in improved performances in the previous two rounds in Austria and Britain.
He scored points in both Feature Races, fourth at Red Bull Ring and eighth place at Silverstone, ending a run of four rounds without points.
The schedule in FIA F2 has been busy, with four rounds in five weeks over the summer. The physicality was enjoyable for Fittipaldi, who hopes for more busy calendars in the future, although it’s hard work for the mechanics.
“If we could add more races in a row like this, that would be very nice. Formula 1 does 24 race weekends.
“We do 14, so it’s quite a lot less. And It is very hard on the mechanics. They were working sometimes until 3:00 in the morning. But I think I’ve enjoyed it, and I hope in the future we could have more of this.”
Despite his blistering raw speed in qualifying, Fittipaldi said he wasn’t anticipating a front row start after floundering at Silverstone.
“No, I was definitely not expecting to be on the front row today because we’ve been really struggling in qualifying pace and finding the grip.
“I mean, how are you going to expect it if you’re a second and a half off and qualifying in Silverstone? We just have to learn from it and see why it worked today and try and repeat it for the next rounds.”
