Former F2 Driver Jack Doohan will Drive in F1 for Alpine at Yas Marina

Alpine announced this Monday the departure of Esteban Ocon, who has been part of the team since 2020—back when it was still competing under the Renault name.

As a result, the French driver will not race for the team in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Australian Jack Doohan, already confirmed as a full-time driver for 2025, will take the seat.

Ocon’s departure is part of an agreement benefiting Haas. The driver will join the American team as a full-time racer in 2025, alongside F2’s Oliver Bearman. With this arrangement, Ocon will debut with Gene Haas’ team earlier, participating in the post-season tests in Abu Dhabi after the race weekend.

“The BWT Alpine Formula 1 Team announces that reserve driver Jack Doohan will compete in the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in place of Esteban Ocon. The change will allow Esteban to be released to Haas to drive in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi,” read a statement from Alpine.

“Jack, who was already announced as a full-time driver for 2025 alongside Pierre Gasly, will race with the number 61, registered as his reserve driver number. He will also participate in the end-of-season test with the team at the Yas Marina Circuit,” the statement continued.
