Organisers of the Australian Grand Prix have confirmed that Formula 2 will race at Albert Park alongside both Formula 1 and Formula 3 from 2023.
The announcement comes after multiple years of success and growth for the series as it plans to expand further.
Bruno Michel commented on the announcement:
“I am extremely happy to add Melbourne to both F2 and F3 calendars from 2023. It further enhances the international aspect of both our championships, having them race on a new continent. It also shows that more and more circuits believe that F2 and F3 are an added value to the Formula 1 Grand Prix experience, showcasing the next generation of drivers.”
Although the full calendar for the 2023 season is yet to be published, the confirmation shows a dedication to presenting the sport on an even larger scale.
This is great news for Formula 2 fans, as it further cements the place of the sport and its importance for future talent as it gives a new platform for the drivers and the teams that have shaped multiple Formula One champions.
This should also enable FIA Formula 2 to become a World Championship as it would now land on three continents, which would trigger this change as per the FIA’s rules.
