This weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix sees a 2020 FIA Formula 2 reunion in Friday’s Practice 1 session.
Graduates, Mick Schumacher and Nikita Mazepin, will take their seats in the Haas cars. And Yuki Tsunoda will be aiming to beat last week’s FP1 P5 in the AlphaTauri.
Joining them in the first session of the weekend is Formula 2 fan favourite, Callum Ilott, who will be taking the Alfa Romeo out for a spin.
Ilott narrowly missed out on a Formula 1 seat this season, and has been fortunate to not only have been appointed as Scuderia Ferrari’s test driver, but has been chosen as Alfa Romeo’s second reserve driver, to Robert Kubica.
The current Formula 2 championship leader, Guanyu Zhou, has been called up to drive Fernando Alonso’s Alpine car this Friday. The UNI-Virtuosi driver expressed his feelings for this first outing for the team,
“It feels absolutely amazing.
“I never expected my first FP1 to be driving his car.”
DAMS driver, Roy Nissany, will take to the track in the FW43B Williams for the third time this season. Nissany has had mixed fortunes in the 2021 Formula 2 championship with two retirements, whilst securing a third place podium in Monaco’s Sprint Race 1.
Formula 2 fans will most certainly welcome the wealth of Formula 2 talent this coming weekend… Dare you miss it?
