FIA Formula 2 has revealed its 14-round calendar for the 2024 season with the addition of Qatar as a brand new venue for next year’s season. The new calendar commences once again in Bahrain on the 29th of September and the season rounding out in its usual place at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi on the 8th of December.
There is a brand new venue added to the calendar with the Lusail International Circuit in Qatar becoming the newest venue to host an FIA Formula 2 race weekend and one that could produce some frenetic drama with its high-speed layout, a long DRS zone on the main pit-straight of 1.06km and a heavy braking zone into the final corner of turn 16.
With the addition of Qatar as the penultimate round of the championship on the 1st of December and with the race in Baku being moved to the 15th of September, the calendar towards the end of the year now has a lot less of a spaced-out gap between the final race in Abu Dhabi, meaning for a more consistent and shorter break period between race weekends.
The Calendar will consist of 14 rounds and 28 races to experience in 2024:
Round 1) Bahrain International Circuit February 29 – March 02
Round 2) Jeddah Corniche Circuit March 07- 09
Round 3) Melbourne, Australia March 22-24
Round 4) Imola, Emilia Romagna May 17-19
Round 5) Monte Carlo, Monaco May 23-26
Round 6) Barcelona, Spain June 21-23
Round 7) Spielberg, Austria June 28-30
Round 8) Silverstone, UK July 05-07.
Round 9) Budapest, Hungary July 19-21
Round 10) Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium July 26-28.
Round 11) Monza, Italy August 30 – September 01
Round 12) Baku, Azerbaijan September 13-15
Round 13) Qatar November 29 – December 01
Round 14) Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi on December 06-08.
FIA Formula 2 CEO Bruno Michel spoke about the new calendar for 2024:
“I’m very pleased to announce that there will be fourteen rounds and 28 races on the Formula 2 calendar in 2024.”
“For next year, we will race in Qatar, which is a very exciting new venue. The final leg of the season will see Baku, Qatar and Abu Dhabi after the race weekend in Monza, making the 2024 calendar more balanced.”
“We keep receiving interest from many promoters, and it’s great that we can add new tracks every season.”
“Even though there will be more fly-away events in 2024, we continue to ensure the teams’ budget remains at a proper level.”
