Frederik Vesti will get the chance to get behind the wheel of current Formula 1 machinery during an official race weekend, he will be driving George Russell’s Mercedes W14 in FP1 at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico.
After his incredible performances this season in Formula 2 which sees the PREMA driver 2nd Place in the championship behind former ART teammate Theo Pourchaire.
The Dane has been rewarded for his results this season with an opportunity to take part in an official Formula One practice session as part of the Grand Prix weekend.
This will not be the first time the Dane has jumped into current Formula 1 machinery, last year he was driving the W13 in the post-season rookie drivers test in Abu Dhabi, clocking in an impressive 124 laps behind the wheel of the silver arrow last November.
The rumours of Vesti getting a run in the W14 have been circulating for a while, but Viaplay’s Luna Christofi recently visited Vesti in England and spoke to him and Advisor for Driver Development at Mercedes Gwen Lagrue, who both confirmed the FP1 session in Mexico in the latest interview for the media outfit.
Gwen Lagrue heaped praise on Vesti for the great job he has been doing in Formula 2 this season stating that “First and foremost because he deserves it. It is the right timing for him”.
An elated Frederik Vesti spoke about driving alongside Lewis Hamilton in the session later this year:
“The feeling that I have to drive an official Formula 1 practice session with Lewis Hamilton next to me is completely crazy,” said Frederik Vesti to Viaplay’s Christian Nielsen.
“And that’s all I’ve ever dreamed of.” adds the Danish Formula 2 driver.
The first Formula 1 Practice session in Mexico will take place on Friday 28th October.
