LoakeGB3 Brands Hatch – Saturday 2023

GB3 championship leader Joseph Loake said, “The momentum is with me” after he took victory in Race 1 Brands Hatch.

The JHR Developments driver led from pole position to take his third win of the year, ahead of his title rival, Rodin Carlin’s Callum Voisin.

Loake said to insideF2 after the race: “It’s a good track for me. Being on pole, it was always going to be a pretty simple race. Yeah, it’s just all about maintaining the gaps and just doing everything that we need to.

“It’s always constant pressure when you’re leading because if you make a mistake, you’re not going to be leading anymore.

“But at the same time, it was just one of those races where I just maintained the gap upfront. I didn’t drive away.

“I probably could have if I tried, but it just wasn’t worth any risk. I wanted to save the tyres for the reverse grid race.”

McKenzy Cresswell drove to third place in Race 1, defending from a hard-charging James Hedley in a disrupted event.

The Elite Motorsport driver delivered his fifth podium of the year and lamented the difficulty of overtaking: “It’s just so difficult to follow when the top three have got, or the people around you have got very similar pace, so it’s sort of difficult to or no one makes a mistake, so it’s just very difficult to sort of close up on someone and make a move.”

Tymek Kucharczyk suffered an incident in qualifying and recovered to finish in P5 after starting in 10th.

The Polish driver said it would’ve been hard to climb any higher than fifth place: “It’s been a decent race.

“The most important thing is that we recovered after qualifying and scored some good points. I think it was hard to do anything more than that.”

The Douglas Motorsport driver also said that he enjoys driving at Brands Hatch: “I do really like this track. It’s an amazing track, actually.

“All the elevation changes, the way the track is built in the middle of the forest. The barriers are so close to the track as well, and it’s quite tricky, but I love it.”

Kucharczyk has been struggling to gather funding to complete the GB3 campaign and shed light on the current situation.

“It’s been hard so far this year since Silverstone; we are struggling to find the funding to finish the season.

“We’ll see what we can do, I don’t know what the future will bring us.”
