LoakeGB3 Silverstone – Saturday

Joseph Loake leads the championship after Saturday’s action in GB3 at Silverstone.

The British driver inherited the victory in Race 1 after John Bennett was penalised after being judged to have passed Loake while off the track at Copse and the positions were reversed.

Loake was delighted after result in the rain and spoke to insideF2 before the penalty decision was made.

“It was clear to see how much pace we had there, we had fastest lap by quite a bit from what I heard so I’m really happy with that race.

“Starting P4 it was always going to be very hard to make up positions after Lap 1 so we got a really good start and made sure that we did everything we could to optimise that.”

Tymek Kucharczyk enjoyed superb pace throughout the day at Silverstone taking pole position but was later disqualified from qualifying after running tape on the halo which isn’t allowed.

The Douglas Motorsport driver drove to P14 in Race 1 salvaging a valuable seven points from a tricky race.

Kucharczyk said: I think (it) could of been a bit better (I made a) mistake on the first lap when I was around P16, I hit some water and spun and I couldn’t do much about it.

“Then I started recovering and I made a few positions, the speed is still there so let’s see what we can do.”

Two of the three Douglas cars were disqualified from qualifying for running illegal tape on the halo.

Kucharczyk said the tape had a minimal effect on performance: “We know what’s wrong there and we fixed that. It didn’t affect anything so it’s a shame because we had such a great qualifying and race.

“And this disqualification for such a stupid thing should never really happen, I can’t say much more about it.”

British F4 champion Alex Dunne finished in fourth place in Race 1 for Hitech, the Irishman said his lacklustre start is what cost him a podium finish.

“Yeah I think through nobody else’s fault but my own I made a mistake off the line, got a little bit of wheelspin and from then on combined with pretty much not being able to see and the dirty air was very difficult.

“Ultimately the pace was pretty strong but it was quite hard to maximise it with the dirty air and the spray as well.

“I would’ve liked a little bit more but at the same time there’s positives to take so I’m quite happy.”
