SnettertonGB3 Snetterton 2022

Luke Browning snatched the GB3 championship lead from Joel Granfors at Snetterton after a pulsating weekend of action in Norfolk.

The Briton bounced back from a mixed weekend at Donington Park taking the win in Race 2 with a superb defensive drive to beat his title rival.

Danish driver Mikkel Grundtvig also picked up his second victory of the season for Fortec Motorsport after his perfect drive in Race 3 at Oulton Park.

Browning was delighted with the victory and said: “[It was a] hard fought victory to say the least but enjoyable for sure. We had a great battle we’ve always had clean battles all season long so it’s good to carry on that fashion.”

Granfors attempted an overtake into Turn 1 at Riches on a couple of occasions, but the Swede’s attempts to get past didn’t faze Browning.

“Exactly [I was] looking forward obviously it’s so difficult to vote around here so as long as I plotted my car smartly we’d be alright.”

Granfors has been a thorn in Browning’s side for much of 2022 and the Fortec driver said he just wanted to finish as a non score is extremely costly and the Briton isn’t on his mind when they aren’t battling on track.

He said: “Of course it’s on my mind all the time when I’m racing especially when your fighting him when your not fighting him he’s not really on your mind but now I had to make sure I finished because you can’t really afford a dnf around here.

“It’s 35 points between a win and dnf and that’s going to take a long time to gain back so just had to make sure I finished first and just try to make him [Browning] make a mistake.”

Chris Dittmann Racing driver McKenzy Cresswell had a mixed weekend but ended his trip to Snetterton on a high with a P5 in Race 3.

The 16-year-old said: “It’s a lot better than the start of the weekend, just sort of lacked a little bit in Qualifying which we weren’t really expecting but just managed to pull a half decent result out of that.

Cresswell also expressed his excitement at the prospect of the upcoming round at Spa in July.

“I’m really looking forward to Spa I’ve watched an F1 race there before but never driven it. It’s such an iconic circuit I just hope we go well round there.”
