Sean Gelael announced today he will be out of the Formula 2 Championship for the next six weeks!
Gelael announced his absence on Instagram a short time ago.
That will take his recovery until after Sochi, which is currently the final race on the Formula 2 calendar.
If things stay as they are, Gelael will miss the rest of the season.
It’s possible a further two races could be added at Bahrain and the contractual season finale in Abu Dhabi – the announcement is still bing anticipated by drivers, teams and racing fans alike.
The DAMS driver fractured his D4 vertebrae after a heavy landing from a collision with Jack Aitken on the final lap of Saturday’s Feature Race in Spain.
The pain from his injury forced Gelael to pull over before the chequered flag incurring a DNF. He didn’t participate on Sunday because of the fracture.
No official team announcements have been made on Gelael’s replacement.
The main focus for the team is to ensure the Indonesian driver has the best possible care and treatment following his accident.
We here at insideF2 wish Sean a speedy recovery and hope he returns to the track later in the season.
What are your thoughts on who will replace Gelael?
Could it be Sérgio Sette Câmera? Test and reserve driver for Formula 1’s Red Bull Racing and Alpha Tauri. Plus, Geox Dragon in Formula E.
Or perhaps even Jordan King? Or, Dorian Boccolacci?
