In a race affected by heavy rain chaos followed. The Trident pair of Roy Nissany and Marino Sato finished in the middle of the pack with Nissany claiming the fastest lap.
The opening race for round two of the FIA Formula 2 Championship, which was again held in Austria. Sato and Nissany had a consistent race that saw them finish 15th and 16th respectively. The reason for the pair not meeting expectations was put down to the limited experience on a wet track.
Sato had “an excellent qualifying” and started the feature race in 11th place, two positions ahead of his Israeli teammate.
The start of the feature race was delayed by over an hour due to the heavy rain. The conditions didn’t improve until late afternoon with a 36-lap race starting behind the safety car.
Both drivers showed convincing pace at times but were unable to make it into the points. Nissany’s fastest lap just confirmed the potential and the Trident team are now more confident ahead of the sprint race.
Giacomo Ricci, Trident Team Manager, said: “It wasn’t an easy day for our drivers, who had limited experience on a wet track. After a promising qualifying session, with a sixth and a seventh row on the starting grid, Sato and Nissany put up a solid and mistake-free race in the middle of the pack. This weekend, I saw positive progress in Sato qualifying. While Nissany’s pace has been somewhat slowed by the dynamics of the race themselves. On the other hand, his potential is confirmed by the fastest lap. We are confident ahead of tomorrow’s sprint race.”
