Giuliano Alesi has announced today that he will not drive in the 2021 Formula 2 championship with the Frenchman also confirming his departure from the Ferrari Junior Academy.
Alesi who tested the Ferrari SF71-H Formula 1 car in front of his father Jean Alesi today, announced his departure from the Ferrari academy and the series as he looks to opportunities in Asia.
“I’d like to thank Ferrari and the FDA for this fantastic opportunity today, to be able to get in the cockpit of the SF71H was incredibly exciting as was driving the car on track with my father watching and sporting the same race number he used.”
“This test was the best way possible for me to bid farewell to Ferrari. Now a new adventure awaits me in Asia and I can’t wait for it to start.”
The twenty-one-year-old from Avignon endured a challenging two-season spell in Formula 2 with spells at Trident, HWA-Racelab and MP Motorsport.
I that time he was only able to produce a fifteenth and seventeenth in the driver’s standings. His best finish of fifth in the 2019 season finale at Yas Marina for Trident.
