Dennis Hauger has made some good race starts this season, and in today’s FIA Formula 2 Sprint Race, at Imola, the Norwegian was able to convert them into his first F2 podium.
“Honestly, I’ve been feeling pretty good about the starts all season. It’s quite different compared to F3, but it felt like I nailed it most of the times this season, so hopefully I can keep it that way.
“I came a bit back at the end, but overall what made the race for me was the start. A pretty good one overall. I got off straight away.”
Despite PREMA taking longer than anticipated to get their season going, it seems like the Italian outfit are rightfully setting out their stall, at their home race:
“Today was a good start to the weekend. Honestly after the test I’ve been feeling more at home with the F2 car, and I was happy that I could make that step on the drive today.
“To be honest, our pace is looking really good, especially in the beginning of the race, and I think I was a bit too keen and started dropping slightly in the middle of the race.”
The Red Bull junior’s race could have been impeded by what looked like a loose side pod. But, despite having to adapt his driving style to accommodate it, the bodywork didn’t seem to have that great an impact on his race:
”It was a bit weird. Especially when I came up to high speeds. The side pod was bending a bit and made the balance a bit weird on brakes, but other than that I didn’t feel the effects too much.
“Obviously I tried to drive a bit more to the right side, to not let it wind up so much, but other than that I just tried to focus on the driving and keep clean through the race.”
