Isack Hadjar will line up in third on the grid for the FIA Formula 2 Feature Race at Imola.

The Frenchman lamented his trio of non-finishes in the opening three rounds of 2024..

The Campos Racing driver was also given a 10-second time penalty after leading the field over the line in the Sprint Race in Australia.

Hadjar has been blisteringly fast throughout the early stages of the season but suffered multiple setbacks, including scoring zero points in Saudi Arabia.

He said when asked by insideF2: “I think I was really competitive since Lap 1 in Bahrain in the pre-season test.

“I think we just have three DNFs from outside of our control. Otherwise, I think I would be ahead in the standings. I think I didn’t change much. The car is just responding really well, and every time I go on track, I’m really confident with the car I have.”

He sits fourth in the standings on 34 points heading into Imola, a track he scored a podium at in FIA F3 two years ago.

The Frenchman said he was satisfied with third on the grid on a chaotic day. The Campos driver was briefly on the front row after Ollie Bearman’s lap time was deleted and later reinstated after for track limits.

“He told the media in the post-session press conference: “P3 is my real position in the timings, so I take it. It was a decent qualifying.

“A messy first run, I couldn’t complete my most of my laps. It was not the perfect way to start the second run. I had a lot of queuing in the last sector, so tyres were not there. In the end it was a decent lap. Car felt amazing, but just not enough for pole.”

Hadjar will start eighth on the grid in Saturday’s shorter Sprint Race, which also awards fewer points—just 10 for the winner rather than 25.
