Dennis Hauger has had a strong 2024 FIA Formula 2 season so far, sitting fourth in the standings only 24 points behind championship leader, Paul Aron.

This year will be his third season in the series after winning the 2022 Formula 3 championship in dominant fashion ahead of Alpine’s Jack Doohan. 

Speaking to insideF2 in the press conference on Thursday afternoon, he admitted the last couple of seasons for him have been ‘difficult’. 

Last year, he finished eighth in the overall standings and parted ways with the Red Bull Driver Academy, who he had spent the last six years with.

MP Motorsport on the other hand, chose to retain Hauger for another year and so far, their decision has proved to be the right one. The top five in this year’s drivers’ standings are separated by only 30 points and Hauger is in a good position to put up a decent fight for the title.

With some bad luck aside, he has had a strong start to the season with MP and has already picked up four podiums, including a win in Jeddah.

I asked him what he thought had made the difference to boost his performance this year and if the new 2024 regulations have suited his driving style more:

“In terms of a driver’s perspective, it’s not crazy different in terms of driving style and stuff. It’s a bit different and it’s definitely feeling a lot better than it has in the past few years. It’s been difficult. We had a few wins but it’s not been up there fighting for the championship like I’ve done in all the other series I’ve raced in so it’s been tough.

“But I’m feeling comfortable, good with the team and we’re working hard to be on top of things and I feel like we’re in a good spot. So I’m feeling good so far.”

This weekend, they will race in Barcelona where last year, Hauger scored in both of the races.
