Hitech F2 Drivers for 2021 Announced Hitech - FIA Formula 2 News

As we draw ever nearer to the 2021 season Hitech GP have announced that two Red Bull juniors will join them in FIA Formula 2.

Both drivers from the post season testing in December, Jüri Vips and Liam Lawson join the Formula 2 grid in 2021 to form a new driver line up at the UK based team.

Liam Lawson makes the step up from the FIA F3 team in which he had a strong season, claiming three wins and fifth place in the championship.

“I’m excited to be racing in F2 with Hitech this year. Following two years of Formula 3, I feel prepared to be in this championship and do a good job for the team.

Joining him will be Estonian Juri Vips, returning to Hitech following a fourth-place finish in FIA F3 in 2019 with the team.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Hitech again. We had a good year in F3 back in 2019, but we have some unfinished business together. They had a great season in their first year in F2 and I’m confident we will be able to fight for the title this season!”

Vips was brought in at short notice as a replacement last year so has plenty of experience behind the wheel of the F2 car. His performances with DAMS over eight races caught the eye of many and reaffirmed many people’s expectations that the driver had what it takes to challenge for race wins.

Hitech’s Team Principal, Oliver Oakes will be happy to have a strong line up following a great debut season in 2020.

“We are proud to continue our relationship with Red Bull for a third season.

It will see us bring two new exciting talents (Jak and Ayumu) into the FIA F3 grid, who have proven themselves with strong results in Formula 4.

Alongside seeing Liam step up to F2 with us after a strong performance in the Bahrain F2 Test and Jüri coming back home to Hitech who we know well from 2019 in FIA F3.

It’s an exciting pool of drivers and we look forward to fighting for victories on track across F2, F3 and the Asian F3 Championship.”

We also look forward to seeing how they all get on in both F2 and F3 over the course of the next season.
