Ilott from Pits to Points
Callum Ilott had an unfortunate start to his Feature Race at Silverstone in Round 4 of the 2020 Formula 2 Championship.
The Brit was left stranded on the formation lap as the grid got off the line and he was eventually pushed backed towards what would be a pit lane start.
“It wasn’t ideal with the start, the RPM was a bit too low and when you release the clutch, it stalled. It’s one of those things”. said Ilott.
However, following what would have been a huge blow for the championship contender he and the team managed to make a strategy work that saw him making his move up the grid towards what would eventually be a fifth place finish.
Callum spoke after the race;
“I’m really grateful to the team for their help in that recovery!
“After that I pushed like crazy in the first stint to gain as many places as possible and then pitted on lap seven. The team did a really good pit stop, when I came back out I was stuck behind the Carlin cars for a bit. Then I got into a good rhythm during the last few laps and made a couple more places up.
“Overall a great recovery after what happened, it was a bit of a shame to be in that position. But these things happen. We’ll see what we can do tomorrow.”
