Campos Racing’s Isack Hadjar says he can’t rest on his laurels despite having won four FIA Formula 2 Feature Race’s this season and holding a 37-point Championship lead over closest rival Gabriel Bortoleto. 

The French driver took his fourth victory of the year with a commanding drive in Belgium, at Round 10 of the 2024 season, saying he drove ‘a perfect race’.

The 19-year-old said it felt good to head into the summer break with such a healthy lead, but he’s remaining focused on delivering the consistency that has got him there.

Hadjar said: “It’s the best way into the summer break [with the championship lead], but [Bortoleto] can have an amazing weekend and I have a problem, then the fight is back on again.

“I can’t really rely on that and we must keep doing what we do, which is maximise every opportunity,” he said.

Hadjar focussing on Sunday scores

The Red Bull Junior Team driver said the next two rounds in Monza and Baku are locations where ‘anything can happen’.

He said he’s not really looking at the championship at the moment, but concentrating on each session as it comes.

“I’m just enjoying the qualifying laps and trying to win the fight on Sunday,” Hadjar told InsideF2.

Hadjar has scored heavily on Sunday’s in 2024 when he has finished in the points.

The teenager failed to score in either of the opening Feature Race’s of the year, but then won two in a row in Australia and Imola.

Hadjar’s title advantage would have been even bigger without a disqualification from the Sprint Race in Melbourne, where he took the chequered flag.

And he was denied a hattrick of Feature triumph’s thanks to a late Virtual Safety Car in Monaco allowing ART’s Zak O’Sullivan to snatch a unlikely win there.

Further wins in Britain and now Belgium, either side of a non-score in Hungary, have put the Frenchman in prime position to emulate compatriot Théo Pourchaire, who became Formula 2 Champion in 2023.
