After winning the Feature Race for the final round of the season in Abu Dhabi, we got the chance to catch up with Ayumu Iwasa during the postseason test.
Iwasa completed the test with DAMs who confirmed F3 driver Arthur Leclerc as part of their 2023 lineup. Iwasa’s plans for next season are still to be confirmed but the young Japanese driver definitely put himself in a good position by winning the Feature Race in Abu Dhabi where he convincingly held off this year’s champion, Felipe Drugovich.
Iwasa reflected on a successful weekend with insidef2’s broadcast journalist, L.A Wilshaw;
“It was a really tough weekend actually, especially the race. But, for me, the weekend overall it was quite good because I took three P1s (FP, qualifying and the race) so I was really happy.
I missed the clutch in the sprint race so we had to work on that, we worked quite a lot during the night of Sunday, so I could do a much better job in the Feature Race. That’s why I could defend well at the end of the race.
Still, as we saw in the race I didn’t have much speed but I still had good confidence to defend to the end of the race because I had the better car and I could improve my driving as well”
